Innovative Thinkers: I am able to build on the ideas of Transformative Moments and characterization that were learned in class with my own creative and original ideas.
Articulate Communicators: I am able to display my idea in a short story that talks about transformative moments while displaying my understanding of the ideas of Transformative Moments and characterization that were learned in class.
In this assessment, I am required to write a short story incorporating and utilizing the characterization methods and literary devices I have studied in this unit. The main goal of this topic is "Transformative Moments".
Before writing this, I watched multiple videos with remixed and twisted plots to confuse us. After talking about how the plot can affect the whole story. Then we are sent to watch a short clip from "Breakfast Club" where we learn more about characterization. I then read and annotated two short stories; "Story of an Hour" and "Lamb to the Slaughter". Before I knew that the unit was about the end, a character transformation map was given to me to try and lay out the character. As well as learning how to use the character iceberg to organize my character.
Finally, the whole characterization plan came together into one short story. In my story "Family Convocation," Macy's ordinary morning takes a mysterious turn when she realizes her parents are absent and her usually distant older brother is waiting outside. As they head to school, Macy's questions about their parents go unanswered, leaving her with a sense of unease. Throughout the day, her curiosity and concern grow, leading her to take an unexpected bus ride home in the pouring rain. What awaits her is a shocking sight: her brother is moving their family's antique furniture. Filled with suspicion and anger, Macy confronts her brother, accusing him of hiding something. The conflict ends tragically when Macy is hit by a vehicle. The story overall sums up Macy's transformation and giving in to her own suspision.
