Which Types of ATK tests Serve Their Purpose Best (Nostril and Saliva)
This Capstone project, all began with a simple argument between my friends. Previously in Grade 10 (academic year 2021 - 2023), the Covid - 19 pandemic was still severe, and caution was taken very seriously. Before my friend and I go out together on a meet-up, we will do a self covid test using ATK test kits. Due to convenience and preferences, different types of ATK tests were used. These different tests include the nostril test where the sample of secretions is collected from the nostril. This process requires you to poke a swap up your nose and swap around to collect all the secretions. It is an excruciating procedure. In addition, it can also be inconsistent from the different insertion dept since no one likes to harm themselves and prefers not to push the limit of how deep you can push a swap stick up your nose. The other ATK test type was the saliva test. This one requires you to collect saliva as a secretion for analysis in the ATK test kit. There is no pain from this procedure since all is needed is the saliva. Even though the saliva method is less painful than the nostril method, people still stick to using the nostril method. Nevertheless, back to the situation mentioned above, my friend and I used different ATK test kit types. My friend, however, tested positive for COVID-19 using the saliva ATK test kit, whereas the nostril ATK test kit came out negative. The friend then went to get RT-PCR to confirm that they were infected with COVID-19. This is where the roots of my question and hypothesis came from. I strongly believe that the Nostril ATK test is more reliable than the saliva ATK test kit due to the location where the secretions are coming from. This experiment is carried out by conducting survey research on a group of people to do atk test and put each type of ATK test kit to the test. From the findings, I was able to get a hold of 87 participants. 8% of the participants discovered that they got different results from the two test kits, whereas 92% discovered that they showed the same results. Now these results also needed to account for the small dataset size, as well as only 28.7% of participants being infected with the COVID-19 Virus.

In conclusion, my main goal for this science capstone research project is to allow me to find the answer to settle an argument that occurred between my friends. We simply can not settle on which types of ATK Tests serve their purpose best. The Nostril ATK test kit or the Saliva ATK test kit. Although this argument already died out over a year ago when this research paper was being written, the question still lingers in my mind. The Discussions (Data Analysis) part, revealed to me that the saliva test is less reliable than a nostril test. Despite the painless procedure of just using your saliva in the analyte and insert into the kit, it is not as reliable as the somewhat painful nostril test. It is better to be safe with false positives. False positives can easily be countered by redoing the test again a few times. Yet for false negatives, people will misunderstand that they are not infected and continue to spread the virus to other people. My hypothesis was correct that the nostril atk test kit would be more reliable. The final overall answer is that Nostril ATK test kits are more reliable than Saliva ATK test kits.
